It’s a place we all find ourselves at some point—asking the questions common to all of us: “Is God real?” “Does He care about me?” “How can I know and what should I do?”

Thankfully, God does not intend us to go without the answers to these questions. The Bible makes it clear: Yes, God is real. Yes, He cares deeply for you. And yes, you can respond to Him.

The Bible teaches that God’s care for you is rooted firstly in the truth that He created you. “You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb” the Bible declares in Psalm 139. You were intentionally designed by God to know Him and to have intimate relationship with Him.

But if we’re honest, we don’t experience relationship with God on our own. Even a surface glance at our world reveals deep brokenness, anger, hate, hurt, desperation and need.

If God is good and intends us to know Him deeply, something has to change.

God is not content that we would be distant from Him. God is not satisfied that we exist outside of the goodness of knowing Him. “For God so loved the world,” the Bible teaches in John 3:16, “that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

The Son God gave to us is Jesus Christ—and He is not just any gift! Jesus is fully God, fully one with Him. And He became fully human, just like us. He existed without sin (everything broken that separates us from God), yet He died on a cross to take sin’s penalty in our place. But Jesus didn’t stay dead—God raised Him to life, making Jesus forever victorious over all sin and brokenness.

What does this mean for you? It means that through Jesus God has made a way for you to know Him. To hear Him. To talk to Him. To have the abundant, meaningful life that God intends for you to have.

How do you earn this life? How do you achieve it? You can’t. Eternal relationship with God isn’t entered on your own accomplishments or goodness. We come into unending relationship with God only by saying to Jesus that He is the Lord and the savior of our lives (placing our “faith” in Him and submitting our lives to Him). When you do this, the free, never-ending gift of salvation from God belongs to you, and you become part of the family of God—forever. This free gift is for everyone. It’s the ultimate expression of God’s love for you.

No matter your circumstances, your doubts, your failures, your shortcomings or history, God created you to know Him. And you can know Him today through Jesus Christ. There’s no special formula to communicate with God, no crafted words to say—talking to God is simply praying. If you would like to invite Jesus to be the savior and Lord of your life now, you can!
